We can tell from its botanical name, Turnera aphrodisiaca, that damiana is an aphrodisiac. An aphrodisiac is an agent that increases sexual drive.

The botanical name for Parsley, Petroselinum sativum, contains the Latin sativum which means cultivated, or planted deliberately. Some plants are given the designation sativum, (or sativa or sativus) because they are cultivated (usually for food.) Another example is saffron (Crocus sativus).
